Last night (January 29, 2010) was the Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce annual banquet at the Koger Center, Holiday Select hotel in Midlothian, Va. We had a great time. I am a member of the events committee that plans these functions with the help of many volunteers and the chamber. Magic Special Events and Classic Party Rentals of Virginia (chamber members) helped with most of the decor and they did a tremendous job.

Our theme this year in “It’s a Jungle Out There”.
Samuel Little Graphic Design designed the invitations and the cover of the program.

I invited a few of my fellow members to sit with us at our sponsored table, which won awards during the ceremony:
Doug and Sandy Horton – TeamLogicIT – Doug Horton received “Member of the Year for 2009”
Sandra and Tom Kozusko – CFO Professional Services – Sandra Kozusko received “Board Member of the Year for 2009”
Adam and Sarah Peachee – Carillon Group – Adam Peachee was recognized as an Ambassador with the chamber
Bill and Debbie Girvin – BizWorks and Lochlyn Company – Debbie Girvin is a past Chairperson of the chamber and Bill Girvin is active in business development in the county.

I had to venture out in the snow this morning to the office. I had to get proofs out for the publisher of the Chesterfield Observer to proof for Monday press time. The news is calling for snow all day on Saturday (January 30, 2010). So I figured I better get to the office early (8:30am) while it’s only 2 inches of snow.

I had already prepared for the snow so it was easy getting out of the driveway on to the street. I took it slow because I couldn’t see the road and with the unpacked snow I was sliding around a bit. No one was really out so I was not going to sit in a snow storm for a red light to change…its just not safe.

Note: I’m not one to venture out into any storm unless it’s for family, friend or client. I don’t have to show that I’m invincible or prove that I’m a man. I’m just fine staying where it’s safe and maintaining my house from the weather.

While I was out you would be amaze or maybe not that there are people out there driving a white car in a snow storm with no headlights on. Sheeesh, that just drives me crazy.

I was at the office for about an hour and 1 inch of snow had fallen in that time. (Total as of 7:15pm, about 9-11 inches has fallen here at my house.) As I was traveling back home there were a few more people out so I had to stop for red lights and a few people in sports cars.

Luckily for me and my clients, I do have an office at the house…so I can make my promises that I would get their work done over the weekend.

E-Newsletter Tips

Hello potential client,
Your web site, at a glance, looks great. But your e-newsletter needs improvement.
Tips: A picture is worth a thousand words. Text is too small. In your next e-newsletter only have 2-3 offers/service sections; people don’t have a lot of time to read everything. Remember this is a monthly e-newsletter, don’t blow all of your information in the first month. The point of a e-newsletter is to: 1) keep your business on a “top of mind awareness” to the reader, 2) give important helpful tips with links back to your web site for more information.
When the reader is directed (by a link) to your web site the possible annoyance of the e-newsletter goes away because they are at your web site now and can review the information freely.

Even though you do want to give the reader the option to opt-out, don’t say it in your newsletter…there is an option for that at the bottom of the newsletter. Basically you are saying (with the link)…Opt-out.

If you’d like more information about how to improve your marketing efforts, give Samuel Little at SLGD.com a call at 804-545-7503.
Thank you for this opportunity.

E-mail and Business Marketing Tips

Hello Potential Client,
Thanks for your email. Your right, videos are becoming a part of web site design to bring in customers. As a web development company, we are exploring those opportunities right now…luckily you’ve contacted us at the right time.

I would like to have a video for SLGD.com but first…I would need to get a script together and I’m a little camera shy. I feel that if I’m going to produce videos for a client, I would need to know the process first hand.

Secondly, your first outreach to me shows you could use some marketing help. We specialize in marketing and advertising for businesses (online and in print) in the Richmond metro area, focusing most of our energies in Chesterfield County. SLGD.com has developed and maintained over 70 web sites since 1995 and has a consistent client base of about 20 main clients.

Here are a few FREE tips to help you in your marketing efforts:
(You can do all of this on your own but I would advise you to consult a professional marketer like www.SLGD.com, so that your message and brand are consistent, effective and worthwhile.)
1) It’s not ethical to send out an email to many people with their emails visible. I for one, (and others should too) am very picky with who has my email address because of spamming, viruses and the such.

Instead, use a service called Constant Contact. With SLGD’s link you can get a 60 day FREE trial by going to http://www.slgd.com/business-resources.html and clicking on the Constant Contact banner. Once you’ve signed up, (no credit card required) you can pick templates and design your email marketing email very easily. I have several clients using this service and used SLGD’s help to make it effective.

2) I noticed that you mention the services of ****** ********* that you are using. I don’t feel it’s necessary for you to mention them. Even if they are making the offer…make this offer your own…build your brand, not there’s. Use them as a third party vendor. You may have used them in your email to help with credibility. I looked you up online and you have enough credibility out there for people to know you’re legit.

Do you have a web site? I didn’t see it in your email. We need to speak so you can make your mark on the internet, effectively.
Can I give you a call next week? What day and time would be convenient for you?
Thanks again for the inquiry.

Quote for web site development

Hello New Client,
Thanks for taking my call today to discuss your web site.
As we discussed you probably only need 2 pages. A homepage and a contact/assignments form page.
We’ll build the site with expansion in mind, with organic search engine optimization for good search engine ranking for your industry and so you can make updates yourself.

A one time design fee for the website is: $*** for the homepage and $*** for the contact/assignments page
Annual fees include hosting for $155.88/yr. and your domain is $11.99/yr. When you transfer your domain you get two years for the price of one. For complete list of Internet Services and pricing visit www.slgdhosting.com
I prefer to keep your hosting and domain together in one account so that the site runs smoothly.

To get started, I suggested for you to email me your competitor’s web site addresses and or web addresses of sites that you would like your site to look like.
Then secondly, I have some paperwork for you to fill out and fax back signed.
For payment, I’ll need the payment for hosting, domain and 1/2 or 1/3 of the payment for your web site before we get started to design your site.

Once I have all of this you’ll be well on your way to having a web site.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
